When do you train?

The CYL dragon boat crew runs water sessions for paddling experience, timing, technique and teamwork.

Water Training:

  • Saturday 9:30am - 11:30am: Water training at Blackwattle Bay

  • Tuesday & Thursday 6:30pm - 8:30pm: Water training at Blackwattle Bay

What type of fitness level do you require?

It doesn’t matter what fitness level you have, we’ll help you increase it….

I can’t swim, can I still paddle?

Yes! As a safety precaution, you can wear a safety vest when paddling.

What do I need to bring to water training?

  • T-shirt & shorts (rashies/thermals if you have them)

  • Water sport shoes/old shoes (they will get wet!) Please wear enclosed footwear. Sandals/thongs are NOT allowed.

  • Bottle of water (you will get thirsty)

  • A change of clothes (your paddling clothes will get wet!)

  • Plastic bag (to put your wet clothes in)

  • Towel

  • Sun block

  • Hat

How often do I need to come?

We encourage everyone to attend as many training sessions as possible but understand that there is also life outside of dragon boating so a minimum of 2 training session a week would be great.

Is there racing involved?

Yes! And our team loves to race. Head to our Events page for racing dates.

How much does it cost to be a member?

We offer 5 free sessions for all new paddlers. Please contact us for further details regarding our membership fees.
